Tibet Ganden Samye Trek has come out as the most remarkable trek in Central Tibet and it is taken as an address of Champa, the future Buddha. The Samye Monastery or Samye Gompa is the first Buddhist monastery that was built in Tibet. It was well-known first constructed between 775 and 779 CE under the backing of King Trisong Detsen of Tibet who desired to revitalize Buddhism which had denied since its introduction by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. The monastery is situated in Dranang Shannan Prefecture. It was supposedly modeled on the design of Odantapuri monastery in what is now Bhiar, India. The 18th century Puning Temple of Chengde, Hebei, China was designed after theSamye Gompa.
Ganden placed 45 km East of Lhasa on the Highway which pursues the south bank of the Kyi Chu to Medro Gongkar. Ganden Monastery or Ganden Namgyeling is one of the‘’Great Three’’Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet, situated at the top of Wangbur Mountain, Tagtse County, 36 km ENE from the Potala Palace in Lhasa with an altitude of 4,300m. The other two Green Monasteries such as Sera Monastery and Dreoung Monastery. its name is Ganden Namgyal Ling (dga' ldan rmam rgyal gling) whereas Ganden means “Joyful’’. It is the Tibetan name for Tusita, the heaven where the Bodhisattva Maitreya is said to dwell Namgyal Ling means “victorious temple".
The best season for the trek is from mid-May to Mid-October whereas summer season can be wet but the mountains view will be clearly visualized and wildflowers color the alpine meadows. This demanding trek crosses two passes over 5,000m, connects the Tibet two most important monasteries and takes less than 50 km from Lhasa.
Day 01 : Arrive Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to hotel. O/N - Hotel.
Day 02 : Full day sightseeing tour of Boudha, Swayambhu, Pashupatinath and Bhaktapur. O/N - Hotel.
Day 03 : Transfer to airport, fly Kathmandu/Lhasa. Arrive Gonggar Airport and drive to Tsetang. O/N - Hotel
Day 04 : Visit Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Circuit. O/N - Hotel
Day 05 : Visit Drepung and Sera Monasteries and Norbulingka Palace. O/N – Hotel
Day 06 : Day excursion to Tsurphu Monastery. O/N – Hotel
Day 07 : Drive to Ganden Monastery – visit the monastery. Start trek to Hebu Valley. It takes about 4 hours to reach the village and camp above. Have a good night’s rest, and be fresh and ready to tackle the Pass, tomorrow. O/N - Camp
Day 08 : To South Base Camp of Shogar La, 6 – 7 hrs. This is the most difficult part of this trek, so we make sure that we start early. O/N - Camp
Day 09 : Cross the Gamba La and camp by the riverside, 6 – 7 hrs. O/N – Camp
Day 10 : Trek to I – Malong – 6 hrs. O/N –Camp
Day 11 : Trek to Samye – 5 hrs. Afternoon – visit the monastery and camp nearby. O/N –Camp
Day 12 : Take the Samye Ferry and drive to Tsetang. Check into a hotel. Afternoon – visit Yumbulhakang and Trandrug Temple. O/N - Hotel
Day 13 : Day excursion to Chonggye Valley. O/N – Hotel
Day 14 : Drive to Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake. Visit Kumbum and Pelkor Chode. O/N – Hotel
Day 15 : Drive to Shigatse – check into a hotel. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery. O/N – Hotel
Day 16 : Drive to Shegar. O/N – Hotel
Day 17 : Drive to Zhangmu. O/N Hotel
Day 18 : Drive to Friendship and onto Kathmandu. O/N Hotel
Day 19 : Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for departure flight for onward destination .
